I had a bunch of updates to the latest version (showing that pirates were getting the latest update), but since I also know our sales numbers, I can tell you it didn't make any effect on my sales numbers.

The problem is that if everyone did it, it would cease to be notable, and therefore would have diminishing returns over time.Īlso, speaking as a game developer who was selling a game that wasn't pirated until around a year after the game's release (we were using DRM which wasn't cracked, but I have since updated the game to be DRM-free), I can tell you that the game demo-video got a ton of extra views when it was cracked (the video views was actually what first tipped me off that the game was pirated, also, the views were coming from a torrent website).
